Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2.03 “School Hard”

November 11, 2009

There’s a new big bad in town and he won’t be leaving with out a fight. To start this great episode we have Buffy and Sheila, another student who Principal Snyder hates, in his very office. He tells them that they must put on a successful parent-teacher night on Thursday. Later that night two vampires enter town: Spike and Drusilla. They go to The Anointed One’s hideout and  tell him that they can get rid of the slayer, having previous experience with killing a slayer.

The next day at school Giles tells Buffy that Saturday is the Night of St. Vigeous and that during the night the vampires will become ultimately stronger. Buffy goes to the bronze hoping Angel will show. While dancing Spike shows up and tricks her into going outside to fight one of his minions. As she dusts him Spike steps out of te shadows and teases her that he will kill her on Saturday. Spike leaves and surprises Sheila, he takes her to Drusilla to feed.

In the library Giles says he’s never heard of someone by the name Spike. Angel appears and tells them that Spike is seriously evil. He leaves without another word. Giles finds out that Spike used to go by William the Bloody. He also discovers that he has indeed killed two slayers before.

Thursday night arrives and the gang prepares for Saturday by making weapons. Meanwhile Buffy prepares for Parent-teacher night. She plans to keep Joyce away from Snyder, a plan that eventually fails. Joyce tells Buffy to prepare to leave and she is looking very angered. As the two turn to leave Spike and his gang crash through the windows. Buffy leads the adults into a classroom where they lock the doors. Willow and Cordelia retreat to a closet. In the library Giles tells Xander to leave and get Angel. Buffy fights off a couple of vampires and makes a clearing for the adults to get out. Xander and Angel approach the school and Angel says he has a plan. He enters and runs into Spike. The two have a friendly conversation, Spike tells Angel he was his sire. Angel, or as Spike said: Angelus, offers Xander for a quick bite. Spike is about to feed  when he punches Angel and yells about his unconvincing attempts to trick him. Angel and Xander hold off a group of vampires while Buffy finally confronts Spike. The two fight nd Spike gains the upper hand, as he is about to deliver the finishing blow Joyce hits Spike on the back of the head and he retreats.

Outside the school the police arrive and Snyder tells them of a cover story. It is implied here that Snyder knows about the supernatural events. Joyce tells Buffy that due to her actions, she doesn’t care what Snyder says about her.

At The Anointed One’s lair Spike begins to apologize for his failure and the fact that his actions ruined the night of St. Vigeous. Spike begins to laugh and in a sudden turn of events he takes The Anointed One and places him in a cage, he raises the cage into the sunlight thus destroying The Anointed One (The Annoying One).

School Hard is a good episode. The new characters Spike and Drusilla are quite an interesting duo. The overall plot of the episode is interesting and results in the amazing scene at the school. The escape of Spike foreshadows his imminent return. It’s also a new mystery as we see the relationship of Spike and Angel play out.

School Hard = 7.9/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2.02 “Some Assembly Required”

November 10, 2009

So this time around our heroes notice that bodies in the graveyard have been dug up. After much investigation they pin the crime on two fellow students. The students need a head and i needs to be from someone living, they are creating a “perfect girl” for one of the students previously deceased brother. The head of the girl they want turns out to be Cordelia and the rest of the gang rushes to help. All during this Giles struggles to ask Ms. Calendar on a date. She ends up taking him to the football game, during their time together Willow and Xander break up their moment. Ms. Calendar invites him on a second date. After Buffy finishes the problem, her and Angel talk and Angel confesses that he was jealous during Buffy and Xander’s dance in the previous episode.

Some Assembly Required is nothing special. It has no great moments. While the topic of the episode is fresh and new it isn’t quite as captivating as it could be.

Some Assembly Required = 6.3/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2.01 “When She Was Bad”

November 9, 2009

It’s a new season!! Full of exciting new thrills, new fights, and new enemies. To begin our season 2 premiere we see Xander and Willow walking near a cemetary where they are playing a game where one must name the movie from which the quote is from. Xander states it has been a quiet summer without Buffy, who is in Los Angeles with her father. After awhile Xander is just about to kiss Willow when a vampire shows up. Xander exchanges a couple of blows with the vampire when Buffy arrives and easily steaks the vamp.

Buffy tells her friends about her time in L.A. At her home Joyce complains about her shopping spree. Hank, Buffy’s father, says that he felt guilty about Buffy’s mood. At school Giles runs into Ms. Calendar after talking to Principal Snyder, a guy who despises children. Giles finds he gang and informs them that even though they closed the hellmouth, the energy attracts all things evil. Buffy resumes her slayer training. Sh experiences a vision of The Master an gets increasingly hostile.

In a warehouse a group of vampires gather. They lend their allegiance to The Anointed One. Buffy dreams of The Master strangling her and wakes to Angel sitting at her windowsill. He tells her The Anointed One is planning something. She coldly replies and as he turns to leave he states that he missed Buffy while she was gone.

At school th gang runs into Cordelia who talks about the demons. Buffy tells her to keep a secret and when Cordelia accepts Buffy leaves with a rude remark. Xander and Willow wonder what is wrong with Buffy, at the bronze. Buffy arrives and, again, treats him very coldly. Buffy joins  her friends and her and Xander have a close dance that makes all her friends feel uncomfortable. She leaves the bronze and is confronted by Cordelia who tells her to suck it up and get over her problems. Buffy leaves and Cordelia is kidnapped and thrown into a room where Ms. Calendar also rests.

Buffy heads to the cemetary and finds The Master’s grave dug up, this being done by The Anointed One and his minions while Buffy was at the bronze.

At lunch Giles talks with Xander and Willow about Buffy. He thinks her behavior might have something to do with her encounter with The Master. Buffy arrives and tells the gang about The Master. She becomes very angry with Giles for not telling her that there was a possibility that The Master could be revived. Snyder breaks up their conversation where just Giles remains, he tells Giles of his desire to expel Buffy. Later in the library Giles tells them that a revival spell would include blood of the closest person to the deceased, which they conclude is Buffy. The vampires send a note telling Buffy to come to the bronze. Buffy knowing it’s  trap still goes.

Outside the bronze Angel appears and Buffy, again, treats him very very coldly. As the two enter they find a vampire and realize the trap is not meant for them. Giles, in the library, discovers that the spell actually reads those who were “nearest” to The Master when he died. This means the trap was meant for them at the school.

Buffy gets to the library and finds Xander who is angry ad states that if anything happens to Willow he will kill Buffy. They return to the bronze and Buffy gets a location out of the vampire from earlier by torture. They head to the place of interest and stop the spell. Buffy destroys The Master’s bones with a sledgehammer.

The next day at school Buffy apologizes to her friends for the way she had been acting. The Anointed One is disappointed with Buffy’s actions

“When She Was Bad” is a fairly average episode. There’s nothing new here. It doesn’t do it’s job as premiere but still is pretty average. It is enough to keep you entertained. David Boreanaz becomes a regular as Angel.

“When She Was Bad” = 7.1/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.12 “Prophecy Girl”

November 7, 2009

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the finale! Okay to start off we see Xander and Willow at the bronze. Xander is planning to ask Buffy to the Spring Fling. Buffy is doing her usual duties of slaying vampires with Cordelia unknowingly close by making out with another student. As Giles reads something that makes him fearful in the school library, an earthquake alerts all of Sunnydale. The Master is cheering at this stating his time has come.

The next day at school Buffy meets Giles in the library. She informs him of her concern that the vampires numbers are increasing and they are appearing in places they usually don’t. Giles doesn’t express much interest as he is clearly still thinking about the reading he did the night before. After Buffy’s biology class Xander asks Buffy to the Spring Fling. She rejects him and he takes it harshly.

Miss Calendar finds Giles in the library and tells him that wierd signs have been occurring. She says that a monk has been e-mailing her about The Anointed One. Giles requests she finds out more about the subject. In the halls Cordelia enlists Willow to help her with preparations for the Spring Fling. She finds Xander who asks her if she wants to go to the Spring Fling. She rejects him saying that she would not want to be there with im while he is moping over Buffy.

Buffy enters the library and is shocked to see Giles having a conversation with Angel. Giles tells Angel of a prophecy in te Codex that states that Buffy will go face The Master and die. Buffy, upon hearing this becomes hysterical and ends up saying that she quits slaying. She leaves Angel’s cross on the table. Buffy, at home, tries to convince Joyce to take a vacation. She tells Buffy that she should go to the dance and presents her with a white dress Buffy had wanted.

The next day at school, Willow and Cordelia discuss how a fellow student had forgotten to get all the equipment to the bronze. Willow begins to see a nicer side of Cordelia just before the two find the AV club dead. Buffy learns of this and after having a talk with a very emotional Willow heads to the library. In the library Giles has informed Miss Calendar of the situation at hand. He claims he will go to face The Master. Buffy arrives, knocks him unconscious, and walks to her fate. The Anointed One shows her the way.

Willow and Xander arrive at the library, where they are informed of Buffy’s actions. Xander leaves the library to Angel’s house where he… ahem, convinces him… to take him to The Master’s lair. Buffy enters the lair and meets The Master. At the library the group assumes that an army of vampires will meet at the hellmouth, which they think is the bronze. As they begin to leave they see the army appearing at the school. In he lair Buffy and The Master taunt each other and after a moment The Master gets hold of Buffy and reveals to her that draining her blood is what will set him free. He drinks from her and leaves his former prison behind.

Buffy112-1

Buffy dies at the hands of The Master

Angel and Xander arrive to find Buffy dead. Xander revives her using CPR. At the school Cordelia saves Willow and Ms. Calendar with her car and drives into the library. Giles questions why the vampires are arriving at the library. In the lair Buffy, Angel, and Xander head to the library. Giles discovers that the hellmouth is actually directly under the library. Buffy finds The Master on a rooftop, and after a quick fight throws him through a glass where he falls into the library and is impaled by a broken piece of wooden table. Unlike previous vampires The Master’s bones remain.

Prophecy Girl is an excellent episode. It serves as a great ending to the seasons main story arc. The episode overall was enough to keep you entertained and it reached its high point when Buffy ventured into The Master’s lair.

“Prophecy Girl”= 8/10

So now season 1 is over. I will begin the next season Monday. After that I hope to begin posting daily, unlike with the last episodes of this season which were very late.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.11 “Out of Mind, Out of Sight”

October 25, 2009

Terribly sorry for the long wait. But nonetheless we must go on. So to begin we see a kid getting beat up by just a baseball bat. Buffy investigates and soon after Harmony gets attacked in the same manner, in which she is clearly pushed down the stairs without the vision of it happening. Buffy decides to hunt. While searching she hears the distinct sound of a flute.

While in the library Giles is surprised by the sudden reappearance of Angel. He tells him that he can help him with his research of The Master by delivering him an ancient book.

The next day Willow shows Buffy a list of missing people with the most recent being someone named Marcie Ross. It reads that she played the flute, forcing Buffy to assume it’s her. Buffy finds Marcie’s hideout in the school and retrieves her yearbook. It has the same quote from all students, including Willow and Xander who are oblivious to ever meeting her. Giles realizes that Marcie became invisible due to nobody noticing her. Buffy and the gang realize that Marcie is after Cordelia, just as she walks in. They decide to use Cordelia as bait with Buffy guarding her. Marcie lures Willow, Giles, and Xander into the boiler room with lethal gas in the air.

While Cordelia is changing she and Buffy have a heart-to-heart in which Cordelia reveals to Buffy that she feels lonely at times. Buffy hears Cordelia scream an enters to see Marcie(well she doesnt see her) taking away Cordelia. Buffy follows and Marcie ends up injecting something into Buffy that makes her faint. As she regains her vision she sees her and Cordelia tied to chairs.

In the boiler room the rest of the gang are running out of oxygen. Just before there last breath Angel arrives and helps them out. He also has the book he promised Giles, The Pergamum Codex.

At the bronze Buffy eventually breaks the bondage on her chair and defeats Marcie. At just that moment two men in black who claim to be from the FBI come and take Marcie away…What the hell!!!

The next day at school Giles refrains from telling Buffy that any of them had any contact with Angel. As they head to the library Cordelia comes by and thanks them, but as another student passes she makes an excuse about being there.

At an unknown location the agents who took Marcie put her in a class full of people who are invisible. She turns to chapter 11, which the headline reads “Assassination and Infiltration”…What the hell!!!

“Out of Mind, Out of Sight” is pretty good. The suprise return of Angel was great, and his action of giving Giles the ancient book sets the stage for the finale. More on topic it was quite interesting with the whole invisible storyline.

Out of Mind, Out of Sight= 7/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.10 “Nightmares”

October 11, 2009

The season is just about coming to a close, it’s expected that The Master will make an appearance this episode. It starts with Buffy entering The Master’s lair only to have him choke her. She is awoken by Joyce who informs her that she will be spending the weekend with her father. At school during class tarantulas begin crawling out of a boy’s textbook. Throughout the day peoples biggest nightmares begin to take reality. Buffy eventually finds out that a boy stuck in a coma is causing this. She ends up in a graveyard where she confronts The Master who buries her in a grave. She emerges a vampire.

buffy-nightmares

Buffy, along with the rest of the gang, help the boy confront his fears thus waking him from his coma.

Nightmares is sort of good. It gives us an entertaining episode and for the first time Buffy and The Master meet.  It is another mysterious force, another average episode.

Nightmares= 6.5/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.09 “The Puppet Show”

October 6, 2009

This first season of Buffy has not necessarily been too much about story. It’s sort of a new threat every episode. This time its dummies.

The episode begins with students trying out for a talent show. Giles has been put in charge and is holding auditions. A boy named Morgan is trying out with his dummy Sid. At first he appears to be doing a horrible then, in a different voice, the dummy begins to talk. The students find it humorous.

"Who's the dummy now?!"

"Who's the dummy now?!"

The next day a girl is found at the school with her heart cut out. Giles recalls countless demons needing a heart for a number of reasons, but Buffy isn’t too sure as a knife was found at the scene of the crime. They interview students at the talent show to see if anyone saw something. They all state that she was last talking to Morgan. Buffy enters the gym to see Morgan having an argument with Sid, who is sitting on a chair a couple feet away. He claims that it was just practice for the act in the talent show.  Later that night as Buffy is falling asleep Sid sneaks into her room. She screams and Sid flees while Buffy tries to convince Joyce that there was something present.

The next day she tells the rest of the gang about what happened and, at first, they are unsure. Giles says that the demon must need a human heart to keep a human disguise. In Buffy’s class Sid begins talking out loud and the teacher takes him from Morgan and puts him in a cabinet. Xander steals Sid so Buffy can talk to Morgan without the dummy being around. He is studying in the library when he realizes that Sid is gone. Buffy heads to the gym to find Morgan. Heading backstage, she sees his body minus the brain. Caught by surprise a chandelier falls on her. Sid shows himself and fights with Buffy. Buffy realizes that Sid is not the demon that has been murdering the students and that he actually wants to stop it.

Buffy decides that the demon must be whoever’s missing from the talent show, but everyone is present. She soon discovers that Morgan had brain cancer, forcing the demon to hunt for a smarter brain. At first they assume it’s Willow but soon come to the conclusion that it is Giles who is in danger. They arrive just in time to see one of the performers ready to slice off Giles scalp. Buffy fights the demon and cuts off its head. Sid arrives and tells them that they must destroy the heart. Sid takes out his knife and kills the demon.

This episode is yet another story-less episode. No Master, no Angel. The thing is this is a good story-less episode. The episode has a couple humorous moments and a topic you could wrap you mind around. But with only three episodes left in the season it would be nice to see some of The Master’s plans.

“The Puppet Show”= 7/10

The Wedding of the year, Upper East Side gets Duff, and Lucifer; Television is kicking my ass this week.

October 5, 2009

The wedding in question just so happens to be: *drum roll for the six year wait* Jim’s and Pam’s. An office wedding. This is the perfect chance for Micheal to let loose. The wedding is in Niagara Falls. This will be sad, heart-breaking, full of rage, jealousy, Dwight-crazed scenes of beats.

In terms of the Upper East Side, little Lizzie is growing up. Yes she is moving on to Gossip Girl. I remember when she was crushing on Ethan Craft with poor little Gordo falling for her in the sidelines…I am such a girl. You just can’t get enough Duff! When you enter this battlefield you can expect  to have people standing 8 inches away from you with a camera phone, hearing the term: Spotted—- one more time a week, and getting in a tussle with Blair Waldorf every now and then. Now if thats not enough they have also added in Tyra Banks. Two completely different camps. You show me a person who enjoys Duff as much as Tyra, I will show you a person who can fly.

In terms of…Supernatural. I am just about caught up and in the mix of the feud between Angels and Demons. Big Bad Lucifer is around and fun fact he is Jacob of LOST. So he’s sort of the all almighty in both shows. And how can you expect a post with Supernatural in it without the gif.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.08 “I, Robot… You, Jane”

October 5, 2009

Robot. Evil.   Start= We see a man in the 1400’s with a demon named Moloch. Basically a couple of preists trap him in a book, which we see Buffy pull out of a box of new books at the school library. Willow translates it to a computer. After she leaves the computer reads: “Where am I?” Something that needs to noted is the appearence of Jenny Calender, she will become very important. Hahaha, all according to plan.

Throughout the events of this episode we see Buffy and Willow thinking about a guy Willow met online, Malcom, the latter falling for Malcom, the former worried about who this boy is. (My most intellectual sentence…and I don’t think I used it right.) Eventually Willow slowly begins to realize that Malcom is not all he claims to be. Buffy tries to delete a Malcom file and Moloch’s face appears telling Buffy to stay away.

Buffy and Giles seek Jenny’s help, as she is the computer teacher. She receals she is a “techno-pagen”. Buffy discovers Willow has been kidnapped and decides to head to an abandoned company where they expect a robot body prepared for Moloch resides. Surely enough Moloch is there and has uploaded himself into the robot body. Giles and Jenny prepare a binding spell for Moloch to trap him in the robot. After a squabble, Moloch aims for Buffy and misses smashing his hand into an electrical pipe thus electricuting him.

The episode provides a sense of entertainment, as do most. I always enjoy the whole new force an episode thing, which this is a good example of, and this one really sheds light on the method. A very watchable episode. We see Giles sending sparks, sparks with our Ms. Calendar, which if you don’t like her well my friend you are in for a bumpy ride.

“I, Robot… You, Jane”= 6.7/10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1.07 “Angel”

September 28, 2009

Okay everyone sorry for the long wait, but we’re back on track. Okay Master, The is angered at Buffy’s success in defeating  vampires and sends a trio of them, known as “The Three” after her. She is dying and being beat when Angel shows up and saves her. They are chased to Buffy’s house where they can’t enter. Angel stays in Buffy’s room . The next day he is still there and the two kiss. When they break away Buffy is horrified to see that Angel is a Vampire. He flees the house.

buffy-angel

Buffy tells Giles of their encounter and he goes into research. She begins to wonder if there’s such a thing as a good vampire, as Angel clearly has feelings for Buffy and he never tried to hurt her. Giles tells her that its impossible, the demon inside is pure evil. After intense research Giles discovers the origins of Angel. Angelus is his true person, he was a brutal monster. He also discovers that a curse was put on him, to give him his soul. That makes him think like a non demon. Darla tries to persuade Angel to join the evil side, after he refuses she goes to Buffy’s house and bites Joyce(Buffy’s mother). Angel being in the area sees this and tries to save her. Angel was in the wrong place at the wrong time as Buffy walks in and sees Angel with Joyce, after Darla had left.

Buffy decides she must kill Angel. She goes to the bronze to fight him. As they fight the rest of the gang discovers Darla was the attacker. They get to the bronze in time to inform Buffy, just as Darla arrives with guns. After a somewhat embarrassingly bad fight Angel dusts Darla. Buffy and Angel decide they can’t be together due to the fact that Angel will never age.

Angel doesn’t deliver. While the shock of finding out Angel is a vampire is good, the episode is pretty slow. It all leads up to the disappointing fight at the bronze with the gang versus Darla. Once again we see The Master and The anointed One. It just had a lot of potential with the “Angel” mystery but it was a somewhat lacking payoff.

“Angel” = 6.5/10
